How to become a Member of the FCCC

When you join the FCCC your e-mail address is included in our e-mail list. You’ll receive announcements of upcoming events, pool reports on VIP visits to China (which are compiled by wire agencies), regular newsletters and board meeting minutes, as well as letters of concern sent to appropriate authorities regarding professional issues that may arise while we’re working in China. You’ll enjoy free admission to speaker events and evening talks, and less expensive members’ ticket prices for luncheons, mixers, parties and other social events. You'll also be eligible for discounts of up to 20% from the restaurants, bars, hotels and other establishments listed in the “discounts” section of this website. The FCCC has three different types of members:

1.) Correspondent members: Accredited foreign correspondents, or those who work full-time for news organizations headquartered outside China. Membership fee: 1000 RMB/year. This is the only FCCC voting category.

2.) Associate members: China-watchers such as diplomats, aid officials, academics, consultants, public relations personnel, media spokespeople, etc. Membership fee: 1500 RMB/year.

3.) Media Associate members: part time free-lancers, foreign journalists working for Chinese media, foreign news assistants and journalism students. Membership fee: 750 RMB/year.

Payments must be in cash.

Memberships expire at the end of each year. According to the month of approval, membership dues are pro-rated as follows:

- April to June: 20% reduction

- July to September: 40% reduction

- October to December: 60% reduction

To apply for membership, please fill out and sign the application form and fax it to 6532 5604. Unsigned applications will not be considered. If you're applying for correspondent status, please additionally fax a copy of your press card or documentation showing you work substantially full-time as a foreign correspondent. The FCCC board will review applications at its next meeting, and will notify applicants of its decision. After notification, those approved will have a month to pay dues; FCCC cards are issued after payment.
