ABOUT THE SPEAKER
J. Brian Atwood is the dean of the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota. He served for six years as administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) during the Clinton administration, before serving on UN Secretary General Kofi Annan’s Panel on Peace Operations. Atwood joined the Foreign Service in 1966 and was posted to Cote d’Ivoire and Spain. He was assistant secretary of state for Congressional relations during the Carter Administration. He received the Secretary of State’s Distinguished Service Award in 1999.
